JAT Yugoslav Airlines was the national flag carrier and largest airline of Yugoslavia, later Serbia and Montenegro, and finally Serbia. Flight operations were based at Belgrade airport. JAT traces its roots back to 1927 when it was established as Aeroput, the first civil airline in Yugoslavia. After World War II, the airline resumed operations in 1947 and was renamed Jugoslovenski Aerotransport (JAT). The airline operated a variety of aircraft over the years, including Convair CV-340, Boeing 707, McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and DC-10. Since 1974, JAT has operated Boeing 727 jet aircraft for international flights. For about thirty years, these three-engine aircraft operated on medium-range routes and left the airline's fleet only in 2005.
