The well-known Brazilian airline VASP, was established on November 4, 1933, by the Government of the State of São Paulo. It commenced operations on November 12, 1933. It played a pivotal role in the development of São Paulo Congonhas Airport, which became popularly known as "Campo da VASP" (VASP airfield). Over the years, VASP expanded its network by acquiring other airlines, enabling it to operate nationwide. In 1959, VASP, in collaboration with Cruzeiro do Sul and Varig, launched the world's first air shuttle service between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Between 1992 and 2001, VASP operated a fleet of ten MD-11 aircraft for its long-haul international routes. The airline ultimately ceased operations on January 27, 2005.
