KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the flagship carrier of the Netherlands, headquartered in Amsterdam with its main hub at Schiphol Airport. Founded in 1919, KLM is the world's oldest operating airline. Its first flight took place on May 17, 1920, from London to Amsterdam. In 1924, KLM completed its first intercontinental test flight to Batavia (now Jakarta). The airline began scheduled flights to the Caribbean and Australia in the 1930s. In 2004, KLM merged with Air France, forming the Air France-KLM group. KLM serves over 145 destinations worldwide, including 92 cities in Europe and 70 intercontinental destinations.
