JAT Yugoslav Airlines was the national flag carrier and largest airline of Yugoslavia, later Serbia and Montenegro, and finally Serbia. Flight operations were based at Belgrade airport. JAT traces its roots back to 1927 when it was established as Aeroput, the first civil airline in Yugoslavia. After World War II, the airline resumed operations in 1947 and was renamed Jugoslovenski Aerotransport (JAT). The airline operated a variety of aircraft over the years, including Convair CV-340, Boeing 707, McDonnell Douglas DC-9, DC-10, and Boeing 727. Since 1987, JAT has been using three ATR 42-300 turboprop planes for domestic and short international flights. In 1990, these were replaced by the larger ATR 72-200 aircraft, which served the company for over ten years.
