Georgian Airways, founded in 1993 as Airzena, is based in Tbilisi. In 1999, Airzena became Georgia’s national carrier. The airline initially operated domestic flights but expanded its network in the 2000s to include destinations in Europe and the Middle East, such as Amsterdam, Vienna, Tel Aviv, and Tehran. In August 2004, Airzena was renamed Georgian Airways, though the name Airzena remains widely used among passengers. Today, Georgian Airways is a fully private company with a modern fleet of medium-haul Boeing 737 and regional CRJ200 aircraft. In 2010, Georgian Airways joined IATA.
