Continental Airlines, founded in 1934, was a major U.S. airline until its merger with United Airlines in 2012. In the 1990s, under CEO Gordon Bethune, the airline implemented the "Go Forward Plan," aimed at improving operational efficiency. The Boeing 737-300, a key fleet component, served short- and medium-haul routes. Continental expanded its international network, strengthening hubs in Houston, Newark, and Cleveland. In the 2000s, winglets were installed on Boeing 737 Classic series aircraft to enhance fuel efficiency. In 2004, Continental joined the SkyTeam alliance. In October 2009, it transitioned to the Star Alliance. In 2010, Continental merged with United Airlines, forming one of the world’s largest carriers.
