Aeroflot – Soviet Airlines was the flag carrier of the Soviet Union and is on e of the oldest airlines in the world, tracing its history back to 1923. During the Soviet era, Aeroflot was the only the Soviet national airline and the largest airline in the world. Its flights were mainly concentrated around the Soviet Union, but the airline also had an international network covering five continents. The network included countries such as the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Spain, Cuba, Mexico and the People's Republic of China. In 1973 Aeroflot fleet was complemented, by Ilyushin Il-62M. By 1989, the airline was operating 165 Il-62s. It was the most reliable type in the fleet at that time and set several international records in its class.
