Aeroflot – Soviet Airlines was the flag carrier of the Soviet Union and is one of the oldest airlines in the world, tracing its history back to 1923. During the Soviet era, Aeroflot was the only the Soviet national airline and the largest airline in the world. Its flights were mainly concentrated around the Soviet Union, but the airline also had an international network covering five continents. The network included countries such as the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Spain, Cuba, Mexico and the People's Republic of China. In 1980, Aeroflot was named the general carrier of participants in the XXII Olympic Games held in Moscow. In 1972 Aeroflot fleet was complemented, by medium-range plane Tupolev Tu-154. This jet was the most popular Russian airliner.
