Olympic Airways was the flag carrier airline of Greece. The airline's head office was located in Athens. In 1951 the Greek state to merge the three airlines (ΕΛΛ.Α.Σ., T.A.E., Α.Μ.Ε.) into a single operator, TAE Greek National Airlines (TAE). On 6 April 1957 the company was renamed Olympic Airways. Olympic entered the wide-body era by purchasing two new Boeing 747-200s. In 2003 the government restructured the Olympic Airways Group of Companies. The subsidiary, Macedonian Airlines S.A., was renamed Olympic Airlines S.A.
