Delta Air Lines is one of the major American airlines established in the late 1920s. During the period from 1990 to 2000, it experienced significant growth by expanding its international network with a focus on transatlantic flights between North America and Europe as well as increasing presence in Asian markets such as Japan and China. In the 1990s, Delta operated Lockheed L1011 aircraft primarily for domestic routes within the United States and some long-haul intercontinental services across North America. However, these planes were gradually phased out due to their aging fleet status. By the end of the decade, most Lockheed L1011s had been retired or sold off to other carriers. The final L-1011 flight (No. 1949, Orlando–Atlanta) occurred on July 31, 2001.
